What are SOCII Contests?

We have a long(ish) history of our monthly contests producing fabulous and entertaining works of art. Winners are determined by popular vote at the beginning of the next month, and the results can be wildly unpredictable. 

Competition is a powerful inducer of excellence. The participant’s standards for himself are raised by his competitors, pushing him to a new level of creativity and performance. In the pursuit of excellence, competition is essential. SOCII’s monthly contests are the backbone of our community. Since our first contest in August 2023, we’ve hosted (almost) monthly challenges, each with a new theme and guidelines.

Themes

Starting out, the contest themes were relatively simple and typical, such as spooky- or holiday-themed. Recently, however, we’ve experimented with more specific, original guidelines, such as duels between two groups of artists, finishing others’ videos, photography contests, and AI-generated art.

Unless otherwise stated, creators are welcome to submit work in any medium, whether conventional formats like short stories, poems, or videos, or more unique submissions such as 3D modeling, woodworking, singing, or even combinations of multiple art forms.

Voting

Contests typically last a month. Once the contest deadline passes and all entries are submitted, voting opens. Depending on the contest, winners might be chosen by judges based on specific criteria, or the whole group may vote for their favorite submissions. Voting usually lasts about a week, after which victors are announced and winners gain recognition and bragging rights.
